Google Tag Manager and server container audit

GTM and sGTM audit: we check whether your conversions really reach Google and Meta

We review your web and server containers tag by tag: triggers, consent, IDs, personal data in events, Google Ads, GA4, Meta CAPI and Floodlight conversions. You get a report with issues ranked by severity and ready-made fixes in a separate workspace that you publish with one click. The typical outcome: recovered conversions your campaigns never knew about. Audit price: PLN 999 net.

Insights

Why a GTM audit is needed even when "everything works"

Google Tag Manager rarely breaks in a visible way. Conversions keep coming in, just fewer than they should; tags fire twice; and some events never leave the browser because they are blocked by consent, an ad blocker, or a tag routed to a server that does not handle it. Google Ads and Meta campaigns then optimize on incomplete data, and you pay for clicks whose value nobody measured.

After a few years and a few vendors, a container accumulates dead Universal Analytics tags, test IDs, unused variables and conversion scripts hard-coded in the page template that bypass both GTM and Consent Mode. A GTM audit cleans this up in a single pass.

What we check in the web container

  • Inventory of tags, triggers and variables — what fires on which pages, what is dead, what is duplicated, which tags load third-party scripts outside your control.
  • Consent Mode v2 — whether the default consent state is set before tags load, whether the update after the user's choice reaches Google, whether the banner blocks all of GTM (then Google receives no "denied" signals and cannot model conversions), and whether pixels fire before consent.
  • Google Ads and GA4 conversions — IDs and labels, event value and currency, purchase deduplication, mapping of GA4 events to Google Ads goals, enhanced conversions.
  • Personal data in events — whether email, phone or address are sent as plain parameters to Google Analytics (a violation of Google's policies), and at the same time whether they are passed in the proper hashed field for conversion matching.
  • Scripts outside GTM — legacy conversion.js, pixels pasted into the template, shop plugins sending the same events a second time.
  • Naming and hygiene — a consistent "platform – event" scheme, marking of disabled elements, removal of UA and test IDs.

What we check in the server container (sGTM)

  • Clients and IDs — whether the GA4 client on the server handles every ID that web tags route to it (Google Ads, Floodlight, GA4). A missing entry means an empty server response and silent conversion loss.
  • Server-side conversions — whether purchase and lead go to Google Ads, Floodlight and Meta Conversions API from the server or still from the browser; whether the event value is read from the right data field.
  • Meta Conversions API — match quality (user data in user_data, not custom_data), deduplication with the pixel, debug mode switched off in production.
  • Duplicated events — Meta-named events (ViewContent, InitiateCheckout) forwarded to GA4 alongside the standard view_item and begin_checkout.
  • Consent on the server — which tags require which consents and whether they block events Google could otherwise model.
  • Endpoints and domain — first-party tagging domain, loader, correct responses for every ID, cookie lifetime.

Want to know how many conversions are leaking from your measurement? We'll check both containers and show you the issues ranked by severity.

What you get after the audit

A report with issues split into critical (conversions not reaching the platform), important (incomplete or non-compliant data) and housekeeping. For every item we note what to change and what the effect will be. In parallel, we apply the fixes in a separate workspace inside your web and server containers. Nothing is published without your approval.

Publishing follows an agreed order: server container first, then web. The reverse order opens a window in which web tags route traffic to a server that does not yet handle the new IDs, and conversions from that window are lost. After publishing we verify the server responses for every ID and the first conversions in Google Ads.

Typical issues we find

  • A Google Ads web tag routes traffic to the server, but the GA4 client on the server lacks that ID: the conversion script returns an empty response and conversions are not counted.
  • The cookie banner blocks the entire GTM script instead of managing consent: Google receives no denial signals and cannot model missing conversions, while the Meta pixel loads without consent anyway.
  • Raw email and phone sent as event parameters to GA4, while at the same time there is no matching data for Meta CAPI.
  • An old conversion.js script pasted on every page of the shop: double-counted purchases and measurement outside consent.
  • Floodlight with a sales tag only, no counter tag, so CM360 and DV360 do not see site traffic.
  • A GA4 purchase requiring full advertising and analytics consent at once, so with partial consent not even a modelling ping goes out.

When needed, we combine the GTM and sGTM audit with a server-side tagging implementation, a GA4 implementation and a Google Ads account audit, so measurement and campaigns are checked as one system.

What sets our Tag Manager audit apart

Both containers together

We check web and server as one system, because most issues arise at the seam between them.

Via the Tag Manager API

Inventory and fixes through the API, not by hand. Nothing gets lost across 80 tags and 40 variables.

Consent and personal data

We check Consent Mode v2 and the flow of personal data against Google's policies and GDPR.

Fixes, not just a report

Changes wait in a workspace inside your container. You publish once you approve them.

How we work together

How the audit runs

1 Edit access to the web and server containers
2 Inventory of tags, triggers, variables and clients
3 Consent, conversion and server-response tests on the live site
4 Report with issues ranked by severity and recommendations
5 Fixes in a separate workspace, for your approval
6 Server → web publishing and verification of the first conversions

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does the GTM audit cover?
A full inventory of the web and server containers: tags, triggers, variables, server clients, Consent Mode v2, Google Ads, GA4, Meta CAPI and Floodlight conversion measurement, personal data in events, dead and duplicated elements, and naming. We also check scripts loaded outside GTM.
Do I need server-side GTM to order an audit?
No. We also audit the web container on its own. If you have a server container, we check both together, because most issues arise at the seam: a web tag routes traffic to the server, and the server client does not handle that ID.
Does the audit change anything on my website?
Not without your approval. We apply fixes in a separate workspace inside your container. You publish them yourself after review, or we do it together in the agreed order: server first, then web.
What access do you need?
Edit permission for the web and server containers in Google Tag Manager, read access to Google Ads and GA4 and, if you use it, to Meta Events Manager. Publishing only takes your click.
How long does a GTM and sGTM audit take?
You receive the report within 3–5 business days of granting access. We prepare the fixes in the workspace at the same time, so publishing takes a few minutes once approved.
How much does a GTM audit cost?
The GTM and sGTM audit costs PLN 999 net. The price covers a review of the web and server containers, a report with issues ranked by severity, and fixes applied in a separate workspace for your approval. The audit is a one-off and does not tie you to further cooperation. When you order a server-side tagging implementation or campaign management, the audit is part of the kick-off.
Do I get access to the Google Ads account?
You do not receive access to the Google Ads account itself. Instead, you get access to a panel in our system where you can see all campaign statistics.
Who do I pay the Google Ads budget to?
You pay the media budget directly to Google. This guarantees the funds cover the actual cost of clicks / impressions / views of your ads.
I don't have a Google Ads account. Who creates the ad account?
We create a brand-new Google Ads account every time.
What happens to the Google Ads account after we stop working together?
The account is archived within our resources.
What does the Google Ads campaign management service include?
Building the advertising campaign, linking the Google Ads account with Google Analytics, configuring Google Ads / Merchant Center accounts, implementing Machine Learning mechanisms and ongoing management of the Google Ads campaign.
How long is the contract?
The contract is concluded for an indefinite period.
Which billing model do you prefer?
A percentage of ad spend, a percentage of revenue, or a mixed model.
After what period can the campaign be evaluated?
The suggested period for evaluating campaign results is 3 months. That said, Google Ads campaigns start delivering business value from day one.
How is campaign reporting handled?
We use Google Analytics 4, which gives you access to campaign results in real time (24/7).
Do you have a price list for your services?
We do not have a fixed price list. We prepare a personalised cooperation proposal every time.
